Wisdom Publications has been at the forefront of environmental stewardship since 2004. We were one of the first U.S. publishers to sign a paper policy, following the guidance and recommended best practices of the Green Press Initiative. At that time the majority of our books were already being printed on a 50% recycled paper.
In 2007, we made the decision to switch to a 30% recycled, FSC-certified paper for our books. The FSC (Forest Stewardship Council™) certification guarantees that wood fiber in our paper comes from well-managed forests. At that time we also came up with our guiding principle, “Produced with Environmental Mindfulness,” a phrase that we print on the backs of our books to share this commitment with our readers.
The Environment Paper Network came up with a calculator to determine the actual savings of using recycled paper for the majority of our books. You can find the specific environmental savings for each book on its copyright page.
In order to raise awareness of our publishing program we still find it necessary to use paper mailings, postcards, and catalogs. We are committed to using environmentally sensitive paper sources for these as well. In our offices, we are also committed to recycling, reducing, and reusing as much material as possible. We use a recycled copier paper that is 30% recycled and FSC certified, we compost our food waste, and we use a special service for responsible waste disposal for all of our paper and cardboard.
