Share your creative piece with the Wisdom community by answering our Winter Call for Blog Submissions! By submitting your work, you will engage the forum of the Wisdom Blog as well as that of the greater Buddhist community. Who knows what brilliance you’ll awaken...
We often hear from our readers about the ways Wisdom books have affected their lives. Now, we want to open it up—we want to hear your reflections and stories; we want to encourage your voice. Three times a year, Wisdom will issue a call for submissions inviting you to become part of the conversation. Each call for writings will specify formal requirements in addition to a topic hand-chosen by our team of enthusiastic editors. After the submission deadline, Wisdom editors will select the most outstanding pieces to be shared with the world on the Wisdom Blog. What’s your story?
WINTER 2014 THEME: Spiritual Retreat
Answer this season’s call with a piece that reflects your idea of spiritual retreat.
Many of us have found extraordinary value in meditation retreats—whether it is a weekend vipassana retreat or months spent silently in the Himalayas—and more and more we see that the retreat not only takes many forms but is experienced differently by every individual practitioner. In poetry, narrative fiction or non-fiction, photography, video or illustration, share your angle on being somewhere you can quiet the mind; what “retreat” means to you, where it happens, who you meet, or what you gain. Your work will be attributed to you, and any visual artwork is likely to accompany a complementary text on the blog.
- Written works must be no more than 2,500 words (no minimal word requirement), and must be clean and publishable. If there seems to be significant editing needed, your work might be passed over.
- Stories, essays, and poetry should be attached as MS Word files, and photo files should have a .jpg or .png extension. Videos should be submitted through a YouTube or Vimeo weblink.
- Materials must be submitted as attachments via email. Please send to mgaugha[email protected]. Please include in your email your preferred email address, phone number, and, if available, a link to your website. Only works submitted via email will be considered.
- Submission deadline: December 15, 2013. Expected post dates: January 15-March 15, 2014.
